Weather in Botswana
Find out the latest weather in Botswana with our six-day Botawana weather forecast below.
The climate of Botswana is semi-arid thanks to the dominance of the Kalahari Desert in the terrain of the country. Much of the year is dry and hot, though it rains during summer.
Rainfall here is quite unpredictable, concentrated in some regions and usually followed by a burst of bright sunshine. This phenomenon means that there is little scope for the land to absorb the water and most of it is lost by evaporation. The rains come in summer while April and October are the seasons of change. Peak tourist season is January and February when the weather is milder.
Summer in Botswana starts in November and lasts until March while winter runs from May to August each year. Winter is the dry weather season of Botswana and there is no rainfall at this time.
Days are long and hot in summer, especially prior to the arrival of the rains that offer some respite from this harsh weather. Temperatures are 38 °C or more on average even in the shade! Expect temperatures as high as 44 °C at times. Humidity in the morning can be as high as 60-80 % while afternoons see these levels fall to 30-40 %.
Winters on the other hand are really dry and the skies are clear and cloudless. The weather during the day is pleasantly warm; the nights are cool as are early mornings. Humidity levels are lower than in summer and hover between the 40 and 70 % mark during the day and fall to 20-30 % by afternoon.
